Insider / Outsider
The theme of the Society for Existential Analysis Conference 2016 will be Insider / Outsider.
What does this title evoke in you?
The ongoing debate about Britain’s place in Europe and the wider world? The current global crisis of refugees and immigration? The relationship between psychotherapy regulation and politics? Is existential psychotherapy inside/outside the UKCP, BACP, and the NHS?
What is the role of existential psychotherapy in 2016?
Where do we stand on the proposal to co-locate CBT practitioners in Job Centres; utilising psychotherapy as a tool of social/economic control to treat unemployment? How do we relate to difference, identity or labels; to trans and non-binary sexuality, or to race?
How do we engage with the spaces in-between?
Insider/Outsider asks if we can exist on the periphery and remain central to the debate. Do we exist on the periphery? Assuming the position of outsider, does existential therapy remain above the fray?
Do you feel like you have something to contribute?
We are looking for speakers, workshop leaders, presenters and anyone else with something to say to get involved with this year’s conference.
The conference will be taking place over the afternoon of Friday 30th September and all day Saturday 1st October at the NCVO, London.
We hope to continue with the Bite-Sized-Bits, 10-15 minute speaker slots introduced at last year’s event, to allow those who might normally shy away from presenting a platform to come to the fore.
Please send you submissions, questions and assertions to –
We look forward to hearing from you.
